La Borne offers a completely different experience from La Plaine: more rustic, more secluded and wonderfully uncomplicated. A week to slow down, let go and reconnect with what really matters : clay, creativity and good company.
La Borne is not just a place to take a ceramics course, it is an experience. This historic pottery village in central France has been shaped by ceramics for centuries and is now home to around sixty ceramic artists. Here, everything revolves around clay, kilns and craftsmanship.
This course is an opportunity to step away from everyday life and return to the basics. Expect a slower pace, simple living, limited internet connection and days fully immersed in ceramics. A chance to disconnect, work with your hands and simply enjoy being surrounded by clay and inspiring makers.
The focus of the course is on wheel throwing. Bring your own project and use the week to develop your ideas independently. Frank will be there to offer guidance when needed and, in particular, to help with the firing. Questions are always welcome, but you are expected to work independently and make the most of the freedom this week offers.
We work with locally produced La Borne clay and, when possible, you can see how the clay is prepared. At the end of the week, dry pieces can be fired, perhaps even in a wood-fired kiln.
The days combine plenty of studio time with walks through the village and visits to local potteries and workshops. We start with a French breakfast, share a simple lunch and enjoy dinner together in the evening.
Accommodation is available in a large holiday home, or you can bring your own caravan or mobile home. You are also welcome to arrange your own accommodation.
Please note: The accommodation prices are different from those at La Plaine, as we are renting a holiday home.
